The first pattern that I created was made using a complementary color scheme rule. The opposite color of green is red and I played with the dot position on the Adobe Color CC wheel to select which shades of red and green I desired. I selected three different shades of green and two shades of red. #8F0909 was the darker shade of red that I used in my background that was incorporated in a rounded rectangle shape. On top I created a triangle shape in the color #178F39. There was then a star made in the color #5CFF8A and two rectangles in the colors #39DB67 and #DB3939. I then layered these shapes on top of each other realizing this color scheme created a Christmas feel. I put the star on top of the triangle to represent a tree and then the two rectangles at the bottom to look like gifts. After grouping all these shapes together, I then made my pattern. I created the pattern in a scattered grid so that these prints would be next to each other diagonally. A pattern like this would be used for gift wrapping around the holidays.
For my second pattern I created a mood from the recently aired movie, Batman. I created my own custom color mood using the colors that are seen in the bat signal. This signal, portrayed in the movies, it a calling to Batman when he is need to stop crime happening throughout the city. This signal puts fear into the criminals who see it as they know batman is on the way to seek his vengeance against their wrongdoing. I used a dark blue color, #000020 to represent the color of the night sky. Three shades of yellow were made into sphere shapes, #FCF25B, #E6CF5E, and #FCD15B to create the colors seen in the bat signal when it is projected into the sky. I then used the plain black #000000 to make the shapes to create the outline of the batman. In making this shape I layered different shapes I made with the curvature pen tool on Illustrator. I then reflected each unique shape I created vertically so that it would be symmetrical on each side. To create the ears and head I used the pen tool to create straight lines. When making my pattern I lined them all up in Grid style. I then incorporated the word “vengeance” three times throughout the patterns to give an ominous feel. I used the color red because it is the complementary color of the background blue. This pattern design could be used for a movie poster.
